Iron Butt Route - Snowy Mountains Loop

Posted by jason in

I've started planning my next Iron Butt 1600k Route - a loop that starts and ends in Sydney, via Bega, the Great Alpine road and Thredbo. The requirements for the Iron Butt 1600k is that you must ride a motorcycle at least 1600 kilometres within a 24 hour period.

Each marker on the map represents a fuel stop.

I haven't set a date for this expedition as yet (it will have to wait for summer), but departure time will need to be at midnight so that I will be in Eden at approximately 6:00 am when the service station there opens. Any earlier and I'll be sitting around in the cold, waiting. The service stations in Goulburn and Batemans Bay are open 24 hours. All other fuel stops are within normal business hours so shouldn't pose any timing problems.

Alternatively, this ride could take place over two days (although it wouldn't qualify as an Iron Butt 1600k).
